Enroll A Child
Thank you for your interest in enrolling your child in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County’s Community Based Mentoring Program. At this time, we are only accepting new applications for children who are referred to us through partner organizations. We encourage you to contact us again in a few months. Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you were referred by a partner organization or you have already submitted an application and would like to check the status, please call our child enrollment line at (716) 873-5833 option #3.
Child eligibility is based upon a number of factors, including , but not limited to:
- Child’s age (5-18 years old at the time of inquiry)
- Child must reside with a legal guardian
- Family circumstances
- Willingness to participate
- The child must live in the targeted geographical area or attend the school or organization the program is associated with.
In order to assess your child’s need for the program, agency personnel will spend time getting to know you and your child. Depending on which program (Community Based, Site Based or Group Mentoring) your child becomes involved with, the assessment will either take place in your home or at the site.
Before a match takes place, the child and parent/guardian are offered an opportunity to meet the Big Brother or Big Sister who has been selected based upon the parent’s preferences. Likewise, the interests, abilities, experiences and preferences of the volunteer are also considered when choosing the right Little Brother or Sister.
