The BIG MIRROR INITIATIVE welcomes YOU! Our committee of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, "Big" alumni and community members are dedicated to increasing the ethnic diversity of our volunteer Big Brothers and Big Sisters so that all of the children we provide services to, if they wish, can consistently interact with men and women who "look like them".
Currently, 80% of the children Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County provides services to identify as African American, Latino or an ethnicity other than Caucasian. Yet, only 13% of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters in the agency identify with one of the ethnicities. We celebrate the reality that individuals of other ethnicities have positively impacted the lives of these children and we recognize that we will continue to need these caring individuals to meet the needs of our at-risk children. However, the members of the Big Mirror Initiative would like to offer these children the opportunity to see more individuals who look like them, come from where they come from, and are successes in society. YOU can join us and help to make this vision a reality!
