High School Bigs Mentoring Program
High School Bigs Mentoring Program (HSBM) allows high school students to meet the growing mentoring needs of our community. The program is provided in partnership with a local school district and matches high school students (Bigs) with younger students (Littles). HSBM is a Site Based Mentoring program model, where mentoring matches meet at a set time and location with the support of a Site Coordinator.
The goal of HSBM is to provide elementary/intermediate and high school students with a healthy friendship within their school community and an opportunity to grow and learn from one another. Activities are planned by an agency Site Coordinator, with a focus on BBBSENST’s Youth Development Pathways: Arts & Culture, Community Engagement, Health & Wellness, Literacy/Financial Literacy and STEM. The HSBM model is unique because there are positive measurable benefits for both the high school student volunteering as a the Big and for the Little.
BBBSENST is in a third year partnership with the Lewiston-Porter School District and began new HSBM programs in Fall 2017 with Cleveland Hill School District, Maryvale School District and Lackawanna City School District. A grant through The Service Collaborative of Western New York has allowed for an AmeriCorps Builds Lives through Education (ABLE) member to join our staff to help support the new HSBM locations.
